Since May 1945 professor S.S.Golushkevich became a head of the department, remaining a head of the department in military-construction-engineering school. In July 1946 he was authorized in the post by the Ministry. Also another department head from the military school - L.S.Gilman worked as a professor. In 1945 Konstantin Vladimirovich Solyanik-Krasa(1909-?), former post-graduate student of the department (since 1939), defended his candidate thesis. He was an assistant professor at the department for a very short time- in June 1946 he was transferred to the materials strength department. Two assistant professors S.M.Starostin and Rakhil Moiseyevna Rappoport (1913-?), former (since 1936) B.G.Galerkin's post-graduate student, who had defended a thesis, worked at the department. In July 1952 in a course of the struggle with "heredityless cosmopolites" (Stalin's company against jews, accused in non-loyality to the authorities) she was dismissed from the institute "as incompetent for her post" (low ideological level of her course, not showing achivements of soviet science and engineering, revealing respect to foreign science in her lectures and other far-fetched reasons). S.S.Golushkevich took the side of the dissmissed officer - he has written a protest to the director of the institute, but even after the dismissal institute public organizations have done everything to close the doors into all high schools of the city for her. Professor L.S.Gilman also wasn't permissed to read lectures in Leningrad Polytechnical Institute.

In 1948-1949 the post-graduate students and assistant lecturers of the department were Lidiya Ivanovna Artemyeva, later Kounina (1919-1994), who graduated from the hydrotechnical faculty in 1946, and Yakov Nikitich Chirkov (1915-1978) - a graduate of 1941. In 1951 they defended thesises and became nominal assistant lecturers of the department, and since 1955 - assistant professors. Y.N.Chirkov in 1958 was transferred to the engineering irrigation department, but untill 1969 had teaching load in structural mechanics. L.I.Kounina taught students structural mechanics untill she retired on pension in 1983. In 1952 Valentina Vladimirovna Dikovich, transferred from the materials strength department, was an assistant lecturer at the department.

In 1953 two hydrotechnical faculty graduates - Andrey Yakovlevich Golovin and Igor Alexeyevich Konstantinov became assistant lecturers at the department. They, as well as L.I.Kounina, were S.S.Golushkevich's disciples, i.e. teachers of the third generation. Professor S.S.Golushkevich since October 1955 was fatally sick. Since November 1955 assistant professor S.M.Starostin became an acting head of the department. S.S.Golushkevich died on June 2, 1956.

The talented B.G.Galerkin's disciple, who has gone at the peak of his creative powers, has left a deep trace in a technique of teaching of structural mechanics in Polytechnical institute. In "precomputer" epoch, when slide-rules were the only available computing tools, S.S.Golushkevich has developed elegant and effective graphical methods of statically indeterminate beams and frames analysis. (On the materials of S.S.Golushkevich's lectures the manuals "Structural mechanics. Part.1: Statically determinate systems", 1969, authors: A.Y.Golovin, I.A.Konstantinov, L.I.Kounina and M.V.Nikolayeva, "Statically undeterminate beams and frames analysis using S.S.Golushkevich's graphical method", 1972) were published later. The significant development of graphical methods was made in S.S.Golushkevich's monography "A flat problem of loose medium equilibrium limit" (1948), for which he was awarded the premium, named after academician Galerkin.

Assistant professor S.M.Starostin remained an acting department head untill April 1962, when was elected a professor and a head of the department in a competition. Since 1956 he was also the dean of the evening classes faculty. Two officers of the department were also engaged into administrative work: assistant professor L.I.Kounina and assistant lecturer A.Y.Golovin were the deputy deans. Since 1958, when assistant professor Y.N.Chirkov left the department, there was only one more officer at it - assistant lecturer I.A.Konstantinov. Scientific and methodical work and post-graduate students training at the department were almost stopped. The department teachers had pedagogical load mostly at the hydrotechnical faculty and also at the evening classes faculty and some specialities of metallurgical and power plants faculties. Since 1958 reading the theory of elasticity course was renewed (the lecturer was K.V.Solyanik-Krasa, who worked as an assistant professor on a half-rate since the middle of 1957. In one year after doctoral thesis defence, he became a professor, in 1959 received a chair in Electrotechnical institute, but combined that work with reading lectures at the structural mechanics and theory of elasticity department in Leningrad Polytechnical institute untill summer 1962.

V.A.SmelovIn 1963 the first representative of the fourth generation of structural mechanics teachers appeared at the department. It was Vladimir Alexeyevich Smelov, hydrotechnical faculty graduate, who had been a post-graduate student of water communications and ports department by that time. In January 1966 S.M.Starostin died, and assistant professor A.Y.Golovin became an acting department head, without leaving the faculty deputy dean post. In autumn 1966 after 30-year's interval assistant professor I.P.Yerokhin returned to the department. By that time he had retired from military service in a rank of general. The rest three years of his life Igor Petrovich Yerokhin devoted to active scientific work in the field of dynamics of structures. After I.P.Yerokhin's return to the department teaching students this discipline began (at first for the students of the specialisation "Hydrotechnical constructions strength and stability").
